In the past, the standardized living quarters of the offshore platforms used electric motor driven compression refrigeration units as the cold source of the living quarter air conditioning system, which resulted in high power consumption and vibration noise. This paper presents the application of lithium bromide absorption refrigeration units in a newly built platform in an oilfield in the South China Sea. The results show that the use of lithium bromide absorption refrigeration unit in offshore platform with application conditions is feasible for cooling living quarters, and the power consumption and equipment vibration noise of the air conditioning systems in living quarters are greatly reduced, which has good energy conservation and economic benefits.
